چکیده
We demonstrate the first asynchronous 2x2 optical packet switch capable of synchronizing, buffering, and forwarding 10 Gb/s packets generated from independent transmitters with better than 99% packet recovery measured using a burst mode receiver. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.1810) Buffers, couplers, routers, switches, and multiplexers; (230.4480) Optical amplifiers

Queueing models of optical delay lines in synchronous and asynchronous optical packet-switching networks
Xiaoming Zhu Joseph M. Kahn University of California Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences 307 Cory Hall Berkeley, California 94720-1772 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. Buffering with optical delay lines (ODLs) in optical packetswitching networks is a way to mitigate network contention. We study queueing models of ODLs in synchronous and asynchronous optical packe...

Optical switching will enable core Internet packet switching to scale with future transmission rate increases. Currently proposed optical ATM switches do not allow packet reassembly, which is necessary for packet level forwarding. This results in the requirement to create end to end ATM virtual connections for flows even if they contain only one packet. In electronically switched networks MPOA ...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of the Simple Prioritized Buffering Algorithm in Optical Packet Switch for DiffServ Assured Forwarding
This paper addresses the problem of providing QoS management for optical packet switch. In particular we propose the Simple Prioritized Buffering Algorithm (SPBA) for prioritized buffer’s management, which aims to guarantee different packet loss probabilities to different packet streams. In contrast to other solutions, SPBA does not need any resource reservation or threshold dropping, but only ...

Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, P.O. Box 513, 5600 MB Eindhoven, The Netherlands Abstract It is widely recognized that all-optical packet switched telecommunication nodes require a form of all-optical buffering and synchronization to avoid congestion in the switching matrix . We present a novel all-optical switching concept suitable for these purposes...
متن کاملModelling of Packet Loss in an Asynchronous Packet Switch using PEPA
Packet switches switch data packets from a given ingress port to an egress port determined by information in the packet header. Asynchronous packet switches (Figure 1) don’t assume synchronisation between arrivals of packets on different ingress ports, and don’t attempt to synchronise the forwarding of packets to the egress ports. This type of packet switch is being investigated for high-speed ...
